A mother and her four children were burnt to death in the early hours of Friday when fire engulfed their residence at Okochiri community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State. The incident occurred while the family was asleep, and the cause of the fire has not been ascertained. Community youths launched a rescue operation after hearing about the incident and eventually put out the fire. Some neighbours claimed the fire was caused by petrol ignited by a spark, but the claim is unverified. The Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Okrika, Mr. Igwe Godswill, confirmed the incident, saying details were still sketchy.
