South Africa has reported 39 confirmed cases of respiratory diphtheria and 10 asymptomatic carriers of toxigenic C. diphtheriae between December 2025 and September 2026. Most confirmed cases were in the Western Cape, followed by Limpopo and Gauteng. One new laboratory-confirmed case was reported since the last situational report.
