The Anambra State Government and supporters of former governor Peter Obi have clashed over loans allegedly obtained during his administration. Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor, said eight loans associated with the former governor’s administration remain liabilities of the state, with monthly deductions from the state’s Federation Account Allocation Committee revenue to service them. He stated that the outstanding balance stood at about N127.4 billion as of June 30, 2026. The loans were guaranteed by the Federal Government but are not grants, according to Mefor.
