SERAP urges UN probe into 37 deaths in NSCDC custody, Minna shootings

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on several United Nations special rapporteurs to intervene in the reported deaths of 37 individuals in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and shootings in Minna. SERAP specifically urged the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and association, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders to communicate with the Nigerian government regarding the incidents. The organization is seeking a UN probe into the circumstances surrounding the deaths and shootings. The call was made public in a statement.
