An Anambra State High Court in Awka has sentenced native doctor Ekene Igboekweze, known as 'Eke Hit', to 12 years in prison. Justice Jude Obiora handed down six years on count one and six years on count two, to run concurrently without an option of fine. The court considered the period he had already spent in detention. Igboekweze and others were arraigned on April 4, 2025, on charges including conspiracy, kidnapping, protective charms, and money rituals. In his defence, he claimed to be a registered herbalist and member of the Odinani Okija Traditional Association, using herbs and roots, and said his viral videos were old and predated the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
