Thousands of residents displaced by banditry attacks across Sokoto State are facing a new challenge: finding and paying for shelter in safer areas. In Gummi, Zamfara State, some families reportedly pay as much as N500,000 yearly for rent, while in Tureta, Sokoto State, a three-room house costs N100,000 monthly. Many displaced families fled their homes to escape killings, abductions, and destruction of livelihoods, but now struggle with accommodation bills and feeding without any means of livelihood. Umar Abubakar, a trader from Dan Gulbi village in Tureta Local Government Area, fled three months ago after an attack on his village and is now displaced in Gummi, Zamfara State.
