GDP Rise: Farmers Not Benefitting From Agric Sector Growth

Nigeria's agricultural sector recorded a 4.39 per cent year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2026, up from 2.82 per cent in Q2 2025 and 3.15 per cent in Q1 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Agriculture accounted for 26.15 per cent of real GDP during the quarter, with crop production driving the non-oil economy. However, farmers say the growth has not translated into improved incomes and productivity at the farm level. They cite insecurity, high input costs, land-tenure constraints, and falling food prices as factors eroding profit margins.
