Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has cautioned against drawing conclusions on the cause of death of 37 miners, noting that there was blood and foam in their mouths, which could indicate poisoning or suffocation. He also mentioned that there were burns on some of the bodies. The governor stated that an investigation will unravel the truth. Meanwhile, residents of Minna took to the streets to protest the deaths of the 37 suspected illegal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The youths barricaded major roads, and security operatives allegedly deployed tear gas and live ammunition to disperse the protesters.
