Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. He had a distinguished career spanning port administration, business, government, and pan-African economic advocacy. Tukur served as General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982 and was elected governor of the old Gongola State in 1983 before the military coup later that year. President Bola Tinubu credited him with modernizing port operations and improving Nigeria's maritime sector. Tukur was known for reaching beyond ethnic boundaries, as shown by his relationship with the late Raymond Dokpesi.
