The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party. In a split decision of two to one, the appellate court validated INEC's recognition of the NDC, declaring the lower court's verdict perverse. The court held that the high court abused judicial power by sitting on appeal over its own previous judgment, which had upheld the NDC's registration.
