How professor, daughter died in gas explosion

A gas explosion occurred in the home of Professor Hassan Muhammad Maishanu in Sokoto on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, leaving him and his daughter, Husnah, critically injured. Husnah, 21, a 100-level Software Engineering student at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), died later that night, while her father died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH). Zaliha Aliyu Gidan Kanawa, the professor's 24-year-old wife, recounted that they were seated in the sitting room when their young son, Sudais, entered and complained of hunger, prompting her to call Husnah, who was preparing food.
