‘I want to be a pilot’ – 9-yr-old ‘detained’ at LASUTH over N4m bill

A 9-year-old boy, Paschal Chinaecheta Duru, has been detained at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja over an unpaid N4 million bill. Paschal became the longest-staying patient in the male surgical ward after undergoing surgery on July 6, 2026, to remove a screw stuck in his lungs. He was discharged on August 28, 2026, but cannot go home due to the huge ICU bill. Paschal, who says he wants to be a pilot, remains in the hospital despite being certified to go home and resume schooling.
