Energy expert Dr Joseph Obele has advised the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to urgently restart Nigeria's government-owned refineries to address the rising cost of petroleum products. Obele, a lecturer at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, said restoring production at the moribund refineries and maximising available refining capacity is the immediate practical approach to tackling the price increase. He stated that restarting the refineries would increase domestic supply, reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products, and contribute to stabilising prices.
