The Federal Government has released the names of 20 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers suspended in connection with the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Niger State. The suspensions, which include the Niger State Commandant, were announced by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who also constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the incident. The move follows a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the deaths, which occurred on September 17, 2026.
