The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses announced a policy adjustment allowing members to decide based on personal conscience whether to accept or donate the four main components of blood: red cells, white cells, plasma, and platelets. The change was disclosed in a statement from the organization’s World Headquarters in Warwick, New York, and published on its website on Friday. The statement emphasized that the decision is a matter of personal conscience for each Witness. However, the organization stressed that its longstanding position against whole-blood transfusions remains unchanged.
