Niger Miners’ Deaths: Campaign for Democracy Demands Independent Probe

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has called on National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and other senior security officials to institute an independent investigation into the reported deaths of about 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State. The group also demanded the immediate suspension of the NSCDC Controller-General pending the outcome of the probe. In a statement by National President Reverend Ifeanyi Odili, the CD said the circumstances surrounding the deaths require urgent clarification, transparency, and accountability.
