A new Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Salisu Kabara, has been deployed to the Niger State Command. In a statement on Saturday, the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, said Kabara took over from Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, who is under suspension over the death of 37 artisanal miners in the Command's custody. Muti said Kabara assumed office at a sensitive period following the deaths of miners arrested in connection with suspected illegal mining activities. Kabara expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives and extended sympathy to the families of the deceased. He stressed the Corps' commitment to its statutory responsibilities while addressing the incident.
