37 miners’ deaths: Atiku puts Tinubu, Alake, Tunji-Ojo on the spot

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake, and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State. Atiku said the issue goes beyond the suspension of officers already announced by the Federal Government, insisting Nigerians must know how 37 people who entered government custody alive ended up dead and who should be held accountable. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused the government of attempting to reduce a major accountability question to the suspension of junior personnel. He emphasized that 37 Nigerians, many of them teenagers, entered government custody alive and died there.
