Minna Miners’ Deaths: Adeyanju Rejects Payment For Probe Panel Role, Vows To Protect Victims’ Interests

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has accepted appointment to the Federal Government's independent committee investigating the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody in Niger State. In a statement, Adeyanju said he accepted the role to ensure victims' interests are represented and circumstances of the deaths are established. The 10-member committee, chaired by retired DSS deputy director-general Jonathan Kure, was constituted following President Bola Tinubu's directive for a comprehensive investigation. The deaths occurred on September 17, 2026, while the suspects were in NSCDC custody.
