The Federal Government has set up a 10-member independent committee to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners who were detained by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. The development followed President Bola Tinubu's directive for a full and transparent investigation. The Northern Senators Forum, Nigerian Bar Association, and Campaign for Democracy have also called for a thorough probe. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, released the names of 21 NSCDC officers suspended in connection with the incident.
