A political mobilisation march by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effurun, Delta State, was disrupted on Friday following a confrontation with a group described by organisers as suspected political thugs. The incident occurred during the party's one million March for NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. NDC supporters were reportedly marching around Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, when a confrontation broke out with men alleged to be political thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Videos circulating online show a chaotic scene, with some NDC supporters in blue shirts confronting individuals described as attackers, while some carried sticks. The police in Delta have yet to make an official statement, but the Delta State government has condemned the reported violence, insisting that every political party and candidate has the right to campaign peacefully.
