Tension has gripped parts of Sokoto metropolis following the stabbing of Islamic cleric Sheikh Musa Ayuba Lukuwa shortly after he conducted Jumu'at prayer at his mosque in the Mabera area. The alleged attacker was killed in mob action, and the state government has ordered the closure of the mosque as a crime scene. Security agencies have commenced investigations, and an advisory committee of Islamic scholars has been constituted to examine the wider religious tensions surrounding the controversy.
