Anger has mounted over the reported deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The Federal Government suspended 20 officers and constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the incident, following a directive by President Bola Tinubu for a comprehensive and transparent investigation. Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo described the deaths as deeply disturbing. Atiku Abubakar, senators and others have called for a probe, while Adeyanju spoke on an alleged cover-up.
