Gombe Diphtheria Outbreak: 332 cases recorded in four LGAs

The Gombe State Government has commenced an emergency vaccination exercise following a diphtheria outbreak that has recorded about 332 cases across four local government areas. The affected areas are Akko, Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye. The Gombe State Ministry of Education issued a directive to principals of schools across the state, instructing them to cooperate with health officials during the vaccination exercise. The first phase of the immunisation programme is scheduled to run from Sunday, September 20, to Thursday, September 24, 2026, with subsequent doses to be administered at specified intervals: the second dose 14 days after the first, and the final dose seven days later.
