The Federal Government has constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, following President Bola Tinubu's directive for a full and transparent investigation. The suspects were arrested during operations on September 15 and 16 around the Lt Gen Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate in Minna. NSCDC Niger State Commandant Suberu Aniviye was suspended, and all operations were directed to be suspended pending the investigation.
