Former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Daniel Iyorkegh Saror, has said that the North has the people and resources to build a thriving economy, but much of the wealth generated by its elite is being invested outside the region. Speaking on Trust TV's program Reminiscences, Saror pointed to the South, where wealthy northerners make good money but fail to channel sufficient investments back home to create employment. He noted that some investments are also located in parts of the North and North Central, but emphasized that rich northerners are not investing in the North. Saror said the consequences are visible in the economic landscape of the region, where government remains a dominant player.
