Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has offered to support the education of Yusuf Aliyu, a teenage artisanal miner whose account of conditions at a mining site in Niger State went viral after the deaths of 37 miners. In a statement on his X account on Sunday, Atiku said the teenager's intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than at a mining site. He added that he was deeply affected by the video and urged that the safety of Yusuf and his family be protected. Atiku stated that he is prepared to support the teenager's education to ensure his brilliance is not buried.
