Dr Austin Orette, the African Democratic Congress candidate for Delta South Senatorial District, has raised concerns over the rising cost of living, increasing financial burdens on households and deficiencies in Nigeria's healthcare system. Speaking on Sunday in Warri while addressing party supporters, he said efforts to tackle extreme poverty must focus on improving the income and productivity of Nigerians rather than imposing additional burdens on households already struggling with high food, transportation, energy, school and medical costs. Orette said government policies, particularly taxation, should consider the capacity of citizens and businesses to pay, and that economic reforms should be accompanied by measures to expand economic activity, create jobs and improve public services.
