The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on the Federal Government to complement its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transportation initiative with measures to reduce the cost of petrol and other energy inputs. HURIWA noted that while the directive to state governors to reduce transportation fares through CNG and electric-powered public transportation could provide relief, it should not replace broader efforts to address high energy costs. In a statement by National Coordinator Emmanuel Nnadozie Onwubiko, the organisation urged greater transparency in petrol pricing and measures to make energy more affordable for households and businesses. It also suggested that the government consider measures to move petrol prices towards lower levels.
