Gombe State has recorded 332 cases of diphtheria across four Local Government Areas: Akko, Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye. The state government has commenced an emergency vaccination campaign in response. The Ministry of Education has directed school principals to cooperate with health officials during the exercise, which will run in phases starting from September 20 to 24, 2026. The second dose will be administered 14 days after the first, and the third dose seven days later.
