The Benue State government has announced that it has not recorded any cases of diphtheria, despite rising concerns about the disease across Nigeria. Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, stated that the state has strengthened surveillance and preparedness to contain any potential outbreak. He noted that the movement of people to neighboring states like Nasarawa, where the disease may be present, necessitates vigilance. Ogwuche explained that diphtheria is a serious contagious bacterial infection affecting the nose and throat, spread through respiratory droplets.
