Apple CEO John Ternus showcased the first version of a foldable iPhone at an event earlier this month. Apple is betting that demand for such devices, which has driven double-digit growth for Huawei, Samsung and others outside North America, will boost sales of its flagship iPhones. The company expects that demand for foldable smartphones, whose hinged sides open to one large glass screen, will also make an expected drop in global smartphone shipments this year less severe than it otherwise would have been.
