South Sudan: Thomas' journey from victim of violence to builder of peace

Thomas Bazawi, a 52-year-old South Sudanese, fled violence in Western Equatoria, crossing into the Central African Republic and later Uganda, where he became a refugee. He now works as a Protection, Transition and Reintegration Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. In this role, he helps strengthen protection of civilians, facilitate dialogue, and promote peaceful coexistence. His personal experience as a refugee informs his work in helping communities affected by violence find a path to peace.
