Former Kogi State governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who died at the age of 77, left behind a political and business legacy that shaped the state’s development for nearly a decade. Widely known as “Ibro,” Idris served as governor between 2003 and 2012, overseeing major infrastructure, education, healthcare and civil service reforms during his administration. Beyond politics, he was a successful businessman whose transition into public service made him one of Kogi’s most influential leaders. Widely known as "Ibro," Idris served as governor from 2003 to 2012, overseeing major infrastructure, education, healthcare, and civil service reforms. His administration built projects such as the Confluence Stadium, Greater Lokoja Water Scheme, and Confluence International Market, and established a 400-bed specialist hospital. He also constructed about 2,000 blocks of four-classroom primary schools, paid WAEC and NECO fees for final-year secondary school students, and cleared salary arrears upon assuming office. Before entering politics, he founded Ibro Trading Company and owned a furniture factory in Sokoto, as well as Ibro Hotel and Grand Ibro Hotel in Abuja. Three of his daughters survived the ADC Airlines Flight 53 crash in October 2006, which claimed more than 100 lives.
