‘A seat was secured but the President disappeared’, Atiku taunts Tinubu over UNGA absence

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has demanded an explanation from President Bola Tinubu over his repeated absence from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In a statement by his aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku questioned whether the President's history with US law enforcement has become a burden on Nigeria's foreign relations. He noted that Tinubu missed the 79th UNGA in 2024, the 80th in 2025, and the 81st in 2026, sending Vice President Kashim Shettima each time. Atiku said three consecutive absences constitute a pattern of presidential evasion requiring an honest explanation.
