“We are ready to die here,” miners return to site after 37 die in custody

Teenage and adult miners have returned to the M.I. Wushishi mining site in Minna, Niger State, despite the arrest of colleagues by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the deaths of 37 detainees. The miners declared they are ready to die there, stating they have no other means of livelihood. They were seen digging for gold with shovels and picks on Saturday. The NSCDC conducted mass arrests around the Lt. Gen. Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate on September 15 and 16.
