CPPE wants foreign traders’ permits reviewed

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise has called for a review of business permits, expatriate quotas and immigration approvals for foreign nationals in Nigeria's retail and distributive trade sectors. CPPE Chief Executive Officer Muda Yusuf said in a Sunday statement that the growing presence of foreign traders, particularly Chinese nationals, could pressure Nigerian businesses and employment where local capacity is already substantial. He cited increasing foreign participation in textiles, ICT products, automobile spare parts, electrical products, plumbing materials and household goods, and said the penetration deserves urgent policy attention.
