Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria's First Lady, has called on Nigerians to stop wasting food, warning that irresponsible consumption habits are unsustainable amid climate change, global conflicts and supply chain disruptions that threaten food security. In a statement issued on Sunday to mark World Cleanup Day 2026, observed under the theme "From Clean Plates to Clean Cities," she said this year's focus on food waste is particularly important given the pressures on food production and supply. She stressed that environmental cleanliness must begin at the household level, noting that keeping the environment clean starts with reducing the waste generated. The First Lady urged Nigerians to adopt more responsible consumption practices.
