Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has said that federal security agencies operating in the state, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the police and the Department of State Services, do not report directly to him. He made the statement during a live interview on Channels Television on Sunday while responding to questions about the arrests and deaths of suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody. Bago explained that the agencies involved operate under their respective federal authorities. He said the detention facility was new but complained about its capacity, and noted that the state government does not have full control over expatriates in the mining sector.
