The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) has expressed concern over the increasing participation of foreign nationals, especially Chinese traders, in Nigeria's retail and distributive trade sector. In a press statement, CPPE emphasized that while Nigeria needs foreign investment, it must also protect the entrepreneurial space that supports millions of domestic businesses. The group noted that overseas manufacturers or suppliers who sell to Nigerian importers and distributors and then establish operations competing directly at the retail level raise legitimate concerns about market structure and fair competition. The statement was made by CPPE's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Dike Onwuamaeze.
