Tension has heightened in Agbaja community over control and development of the Nkwo Agbaja area following a dispute between the community's traditional and executive leadership. The row concerns a proposed stadium and other structures reportedly erected at Nkwo Agbaja by community president Chief Ugonnia Anie Ekunie in collaboration with a philanthropist, which were subsequently demolished. The dispute has raised questions about the extent of the powers of the traditional ruler, the Obi of Agbaja, Chief Pius Ezeigwe, and the authority of the community president over communal projects and traditional sites. Anambra State Commissioner for Information Law Mefor said he could not speak on the issue because he lacked details.
