World Bank: 67.2m Nigerians Covered by Cash Transfers Amid Transparency Questions

The World Bank has reported that Nigeria's cash-based social intervention programmes reached 67.19 million people and 10.44 million households by August 2026. According to its latest Implementation Status and Results Report on the National Social Safety Net Programme-Scale Up, 10.43 million poor and vulnerable households received economic shock-responsive cash transfers. More than 7.1 million households received all three tranches after biometric verification using National Identification Numbers or Bank Verification Numbers. The report also revised an $800 million International Development Association facility to $776.42 million.
