The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has called for professional sanctions against former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), if findings in the latest International Chamber of Commerce arbitration award on the Mambilla hydropower dispute constitute professional misconduct. In a statement issued by National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Nnadozie Onwubiko, HURIWA commended the incumbent Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for efforts to protect Nigeria from potential financial liabilities. The group said the 616-page final award delivered in Paris on September 16, 2026, rejected Sunrise Power's claims and contained serious findings concerning Malami's handling of the dispute.
