Uwaleke Seeks Amendment of CBN Act to Strengthen Monetary, Fiscal Policy Coordination

Prof. Uche Uwaleke, President of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria and Director of the Institute of Capital Market Studies at Nasarawa State University, has called for an amendment to the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007. He said the amendment should establish a transparent framework to strengthen coordination between fiscal and monetary policies. His call followed a recent Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Ministry of Finance and the CBN to formalise collaboration. Uwaleke made the recommendation in an article titled 'Beyond the MoU: Building a Coherent Fiscal-Monetary Policy Framework,' noting that the next step should be to move coordination from administrative practice to a durable institutional framework.
