Nigeria's men's and women's teams moved to six match points each after contrasting results in Round Five of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The men's team bounced back from a previous-round defeat by Cuba to beat Malawi 3.5-0.5, while the women's team drew 2-2 with the Czech Republic. In the Open section, Bomo Lovet Kigigha drew with Joseph Mwale on the top board, but Abdulrahman Akintoye Abdulraheem, Odion Aikhoje, and 15-year-old Odey Goodness Ekunke won their matches. The result gave Nigeria three wins and two defeats from five rounds.
