The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Union Side, has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requesting urgent intervention to address economic hardship. The civil servants are demanding that the Federal Government stabilise the price of Premium Motor Spirit at N500 per litre, approve an immediate wage award, and review salaries and allowances across the public service. They also seek the immediate constitution of a committee to negotiate a new National Minimum Wage ahead of January 2027. The workers gave a September 30 deadline for action, citing that recent fuel price increases to N1,430 per litre and above have worsened the cost-of-living crisis.
