The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters for the Nigerian Air Force as a major milestone. He made the remark during a beam signing ceremony at Bell Textron in Amarillo, Texas, United States, according to a statement by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. Aneke said the acquisition is part of the Nigeria–United States Government defence cooperation programme and Nigeria's efforts to modernise its armed forces. He added that it reflects the Federal Government's strategic vision to strengthen defence and security architecture and provide the armed forces with platforms to address current and emerging security threats.
