The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has called on Peter Obi, the Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate, to resign from the 2027 presidential race over alleged debts incurred during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. In a statement signed by spokesman Dele Alake, the council accused Obi of misrepresenting his administration's financial record and challenged him to honour a reported promise to withdraw if it was established that he left a debt burden. The council cited disclosures attributed to the Anambra State Government that Obi spent approximately $4.05bn, equivalent to N5.4tn, and contracted $123.77m in external loans during his eight-year tenure. It further claimed that eight external borrowings were made.
