The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested and detained 24 personnel in connection with the death of 33 suspected illegal miners in Niger State. Commandant General Ahmed Audi assured that due process, transparency and accountability will be strictly followed in the investigation, adding that any personnel found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures and the law. Corps Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi, while parading the officers and men at the Corps Headquarters, disclosed that three more personnel were identified and placed on suspension, bringing the number of detained personnel to 24, up from an initial figure of 21. The spokesman explained that the arrests followed a swift and decisive joint operation conducted with the Commandant General's Special.
