Senator (Prof.) Sandy Ojang Onor has been chosen as the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Onor, a professor of history and former senator, represented Cross River Central in the 9th Senate from 2019 to 2023. In May 2026, he emerged as the sole aspirant of the PDP faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and was adopted through a consensus process. Born in Ikom, Cross River State, on February 14, 1966, Onor studied history at the University of Calabar and spent much of his professional life in academia before entering politics.
